Nick Kyrgios has revealed he would have retired immediately after the Wimbledon 2022 final - if he had beaten Novak Djokovic.

The Australian star - who is currently recovering from knee surgery - made the statement on the Impaulsive podcast hosted by Logan Paul.

Kyrgios won the first set against Djokovic at the All England Club, before going down 4-6 6-3 6-4 7-6 in his first Grand Slam final.

While Kyrgios has mentioned possible early retirement before, the world No.19 revealed he would have pulled the pin if he lifted the Wimbledon trophy.

“That was my chance (to win a major),” Kyrgios said on Impaulsive. “That was really my chance.

“If I’d honestly won (against Djokovic), I think I would have retired at least for a year or two.”

Kyrgios believes it’s ‘almost impossible’ to win a Grand Slam, but still believes he can snare one before his career is finished.

But he also had question marks over his own motivation to reach the promised land at a major.

“It’s tough because you play four or five hours and then you have one day off and then you have to do it again,” he said.

“And then that’s seven times in a row to win a grand slam, So it’s almost impossible.

“I think I can win a grand slam. Wimbledon I was right there. I was two sets away.

“I won the first set and I thought ‘this is it’. And then I just didn’t stay in the moment and he stayed super composed.

“I feel like I could do that. It’s weird, but I feel like it’s not even for me though. I feel like it’s for everyone else. All the haters as well. I could finally just rest. I could just go home and sleep in my bed and not deal with the s***.”

Kyrgios will be hoping to return from injury and peak at full fitness going into Wimbledon 2023, which begins in early July.

The Australian’s big-serving game is particularly suited to the grasscourts of the All-England Club, where has achieved his best career results.
