Devin Haney defied the odds and beat George Kambosos Jr. via unanimous decision Sunday at Marvel Stadium in Australia to become undisputed lightweight champion. The judges scored the bout 116-112, 116-112 and 118-110 for the American.
Haney, who came in as the WBC champion, won the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO and The Ring lightweight titles from the Australian Kambosos. The fight was a sparring clinic as Haney jabbed his way to victory. Kambosos had no answers.

Haney had to go on a wild journey to reach this moment. He didn’t have his father in his corner until the day of the fight. His head trainer wasn’t able to attend. He was tested emotionally, physically and mentally as he traveled from California to Australia.
After passing those tests with flying colors, Haney can now say he forged his own path to becoming an undisputed champion. The 23-year-old has officially taken over the boxing world. It appears he’s just getting started.
What’s next for Devin Haney?
Haney will walk out of Kambosos' home as the ultimate champion. And then he’ll have to do it all over again. The former Matchroom Boxing star agreed to a rematch with Kambosos if he won. Not only that, but Haney will have to return to Australia to defend those titles.

“Both fights will be in Australia, due to (Kambosos') demand,” Haney told Fight Hype before the fight. “I would have loved for the next fight to be in my home country but that’s what they demanded for the fight to get made. We don’t want to miss this opportunity. I am a true champion, I will beat you in your backyard, twice if I have to.

“I truly believe that if we fought 10 times, I would beat him 10 times, no matter where it is.”
It is unknown when the rematch will be. Furthermore, it is unknown which promotion will be backing Haney for the bout. Haney left Matchroom to work with Top Rank, but it appears he has yet to sign a multifight contract with the promotion.
If he is able to get out of the rematch with Kambosos, fights against WBA (Regular) champion Gervonta Davis and former lightweight champion Vasiliy Lomachenko will be on the table.
