MLB All-Star Game results: Giancarlo Stanton, Byron Buxton go back-to-back in the fourth inning to lead AL in win over NL

The National League appeared to have a glimmer of hope that it could snap its losing streak in the All-Star Game to the American League. Giancarlo Stanton, Byron Buxton and a group of standout AL arms shut down that optimism quickly.

The Junior Circuit fell behind early, but Stanton hit a two-run, no-doubt home run in the top of the fourth to tie up the game at two. Buxton followed him right away with a solo shot to left to give the American League the 3-2 advantage.

From there, the American League pitchers held the NL without a hit until the bottom of the eighth, and Emmanuel Clase slammed the door in the ninth by striking out the side in order to deliver the 3-2 win for the AL.

Stanton was named All-Star Game MVP as the American League claimed its ninth straight win in the All-Star Game.

The National League jumped all over AL Cy Young favorite Shane McClanahan after a scoreless top half of the first inning from Clayton Kershaw. Ronald Acuna Jr. started the frame with a double and scored when the next batter, Mookie Betts, hit an RBI single up the middle to give the NL its first lead in an All-Star Game since 2016. Betts was eliminated on a double play by Machado, but Paul Goldschmidt hit a solo home run to put the NL up 2-0.

The 2-0 advantage was the largest lead the NL has held since it won the 2012 All-Star Game 8-0.

From that point on, however, the NL was kept out of the hit column. Austin Riley singled in the bottom of the eighth off Michael King to give the Senior Circuit its first base hit since the first inning. The next three batters were set down in order to retire the side.

Framber Valdez was given the win, while Tony Gonsolin was given the loss. Jose Ramirez was the only player in the All-Star game with multiple hits.

11:29 p.m.: Schwarber is caught looking at a 99 mph cutter down and in for the second out. The AL is one out away from a nine-game All-Star winning streak.

11:28 p.m.: Clase catches Cooper looking with a 99 mph cutter on the down and away corner. One out.

11:23 p.m. End Top Ninth: Martinez bounces out to end the top of the ninth. Emmanuel Clase will come in to try and close out the win for the American League.

11:21 p.m.: The AL stays out of the double play as Espinal was running on the pitch, but Trevino grounds out to shortstop. Martinez bats with Espinal on second and two out.

11:20 p.m.: The American League has a ninth-inning baserunner as Espinal takes a walk with one out. Trevino to bat.

11:17 p.m.: Seager bounces out to Cron at first.

11:16 p.m.: New pitcher for the NL is David Bednar, who faces Seager to start the top of the ninth.

11:13 p.m. End of Eighth: d’Arnaud flies out to center to retire the side. The AL will head to the ninth with at least a one-run lead.

11:10 p.m.: Pitching change for the AL. Liam Hendriks is coming in to replace Holmes as d’Arnaud is due up for the NL.

11:08 p.m.: Swanson lifts a flyout to center for the second out.

11:06 p.m.: C.J. Cron hits a grounder to third. Arraez throws to second for the fielder’s choice, but the AL can’t turn two as Cron beats out the throw to first.

11:04 p.m.: The NL has its first base hit since the first inning as Riley lines a base hit into right field to lead off the eighth with a single.

11:03 p.m.: Clay Holmes is the new arm on the hill for the American League.

11 p.m. End Top Eighth: Rodriguez lifts one up to Soto in right for the third out of the frame.

10:59 p.m.: Helsley gets Benintendi swinging at a fastball low and away for the second out of the frame.

10:57 p.m.: Arraez hits a hard grounder to second base that Cronenworth can’t scoop, and the AL has a base-runner with one out. Benintendi up to bat.

10:55 p.m.: France goes down swinging for the first out in the eight.

10:53 p.m.: Another new arm for the NL as Ryan Helsley comes in to pitch. He’ll face Ty France, who will replace Ramirez.

10:50 p.m. End of Seventh: In the Soto vs. Soto matchup, Gregory Soto wins, as Juan Soto grounds into a force out. The AL comes to bat with a 3-2 lead.

10:49 p.m.: The National League has a seventh-inning base-runner as Happ takes the walk to give Soto a chance to bat with a runner on.

10:44 p.m.: Cronenworth grounds out to Espinal for the second out of the frame. That will be all for Lopez, as Gregory Soto is coming in to face Happ.

10:43 p.m.: Great play by Corey Seager, who ranges to his left to field a grounder up the middle by Schwarber and makes the cross-body throw for the first out of the frame.

10:42 p.m.: Jorge Lopez comes in to pitch for the American League. He’ll face Schwarber, Happ and Soto to start the bottom of the seventh.

10:39 p.m. End Top Seventh: Tucker pops up to Riley in foul territory for the final out of the seventh. Stretch time in Los Angeles.

10:37 p.m.: Martinez chases a pitch below the zone for the second out.

10:35 p.m.: Trevino lines a base hit over the first base bag and down the right field line for a single. J.D. Martinez pinch hits for Cabrera for the next batter.

10:34 p.m.: Devin Williams enters the game for the seventh, and gets Espinal to ground out to shortstop.

8:55 p.m.: Joc Pederson chases a fastball up and out of the zone and strikes out on the foul tip.

8:31 p.m.: Ronald Acuna Jr. ropes a double down the left field line to get the bottom of the first started for the National League.
