For the second time in the past few months, it appears that Jake Paul vs. Tommy Fury is close to being nixed. That is, if Fury can’t get into the United States.

The “Love Island” star and boxer is supposed to face off against Paul on Aug. 6. Main eventing Madison Square Garden, Fury would be the first of his family to do so. Unfortunately for him, visa issues, among other factors, have halted him from being allowed to enter America.

Fury said on Instagram that his ESTA has been denied by Homeland Security. He attempted to get the issue resolved before a scheduled news conference in New York on Tuesday.

“Me and my team this morning arrived at Heathrow Airport ready for the press conference, ready to fly out. As soon as I entered the airport, I got pulled to one side, and I was told by a homeland security officer that was there that my ESTA had been denied, and I wasn’t able to travel to the USA for a reason that I apparently know,” Fury said.

“I can stand here and say I’ve done absolutely nothing wrong, and I have no clue why I am not allowed to travel to the USA. Like I said, I’ve been training for a fight for this whole time, and that’s all I’ve been doing. I have no clue why they would not allow me to travel today, and neither does any of my team or my lawyers. Now, I’m having to go to embassies and all this sort of stuff to try and resolve it.”

Most Valuable Promotions has since put out a statement explaining the situation. The scheduled news conference in New York is postponed. It is unknown whether there will be another one.

Who is Tommy Fury?

The half-brother of Tyson Fury, Tommy made his pro debut in 2018. He won four fights in 2021, with his win against Anthony Taylor taking place during the first Paul-Woodley fight card. Fury’s last fight was a win over Daniel Bocianski in April at Wembley Stadium.

Fury was supposed to fight Paul in December. At the last second, Fury backed out because of a broken rib. Paul and Fury have been calling one another out over the past few months. The MSG bout became official just a few weeks ago.

Recently, Tommy’s father, John, ranted about how his son may not have his entire corner with him for a fight against Paul. John Fury has been denied a visa to the U.S. several times after being found guilty of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after gouging a man’s eye out in a brawl in 2010.

“You can have the fight on Aug. 6, but it has got to be not in America because all of us at the minute are suspended and banned for life. I can’t get there at all,” Fury said, via Mirror. “Tyson can’t get over there because he has a few issues at the moment that he is trying to sort out. So Tommy has got no team.”

What is the status of Jake Paul vs. Tyson Fury?

Within its social media release, Most Valuable Promotions stated that it will be working with Showtime and Madison Square Garden regarding this situation and will update fans with any new developments as soon as possible.

Per Boxing Scene’s Jake Donovan, the issues with Fury need to be resolved by Queensberry Promotions and Fury. If he can enter the United States, the fight is on. There is no indication that the bout has been postponed.

Paul has since responded to the news on social media. When Fury had to back out of their fight last time, Paul fought Tyron Woodley in a rematch.

“Tommy, no matter how hard u try to get out of this fight, I’m going 2 do everything in my power 2 not let u weasel ur way out. My team & my partners have made it clear the steps u need to take 2 solve ur latest excuse. Take them or admit ur a scared little bitch. #TommyFumbles”

Jake has since gone on social media stating that he has instructed his team to move on to the next potential challenger, whoever that may be.

What is Daniel Kinahan’s relationship with the Furys?

Recently, Dublin’s High Court has named Daniel Kinahan, the founder of MTK Global, a senior figure in organized crime. That includes involvement in international drug-trafficking operations and firearm offenses. U.S. officials in Ireland announced a $15 million reward regarding any information on Daniel Kinahan and his family. The U.S. has also halted anyone connected to Kinahan from entering the country.

Kinahan has advised Tyson Fury in the past. When Tyson and Anthony Joshua agreed in principle to face one another in 2020, Fury thanked Kinahan on social media. That fight never materialized.

According to a report from Nicola Tallant and Niall Donald of the Sunday World, Tyson was recently refused entry into the United States by U.S. immigration. This was reportedly because of his links to Kinahan. John Fury’s social media rant might have hinted at this.

Per Boxing Scene, as of this moment, Tommy’s issues are not connected to Kinahan. Fury traveled to California in May, not long after up to 600 people were added to a no-fly list as a result of their relation to Kinahan. Back in August, he experienced similar traveling issues. Representatives of Queensberry and other members of Team Fury have not been in the United States since the ruling.
